We made a book!

About two and a half years ago, while walking through the park, crushed by the pandemic that had halted all of our classes with incarcerated women, we dreamt up a book project.

What if we shared our stories with women on the inside?

What if we wrote about the same themes and topics?

What if we shared them back and forth through email, snail mail, and screen sharing?

What if we saw this as a way to break down the barriers that keep us apart rather than a barrier that halts connection?

Fearlessly led by Caroline Cox. After being released, she took our 4 class series on the outside, and then I hired her to lead and steer this BEAST of a project. With insight, exhaustion, questions, and precision, the day is finally here. Breaking Down Barriers on Kindle and paperback wherever you buy your books. You'll find us both as authors on the inside, along with so many women inside and outside the facility that joined this project.

This project was generously supported by Oregon Humanities and  Regional Arts and Culture Council.

Each copy purchased ensures a woman inside is gifted a copy.

We serve women inside in four U.S. states currently.
